Rare 18th Century Rhino Hide Indian Dhal with Armoury Mark
Here we have a fine example of a large Indian Dhal shield, made from high quality translucent Rhino hide. Brandishing a large crescent, complete with four ornate bosses, one of which looks to be replaced. It also has its original knuckle cushion and grip rope. This Dhal is very unique as there is a hidden Sanskrit inscription under the cushion, which reads “Shri dhaftri sena ragad jeejee bragani dhal kabach”. Roughly translates to “A Dhal/Armour from the Respective Armoury of the Sena of Ragad Jee Jee Bragani”.
