Rare Circa 17th Cenury Parrying Dhal Shield
Here we have a fine example of a very rare shield from the Indian Subcontinent or border regions of Nepal,Bhutan. Designed as a parrying shield very similar to the more common Madu/Madru. This armoured weapon would be used with great affect to parry incoming blows as well as offering the ability to side strike an opponent, providing a clear advantage over the typically used Dhals. Constructed from both Iron & Brass metals, the shield is in solid condition with aged patina. The Indic style of the shield resembles weaponry & art from the gupta era, which have a strong Vedic influence.
